Bob Johnstone now serves of counsel (retired) in the Litigation Department, resident in the Indianapolis, Indiana office. He concentrates his trial practice in three areas: representation of life and disability insurance companies; representation of clients in commercial litigation, and representation of media clients.

OVERVIEW

Bob Johnstone now serves of counsel (retired) in the Litigation Department, resident in the Indianapolis, Indiana office. He concentrates his trial practice in three areas: representation of life and disability insurance companies; representation of clients in commercial litigation, and representation of media clients.

In his insurance practice, Bob represents insurance companies in their business and financial litigation relating to investments, corporate transactions, and reinsurance; works extensively on defending class action litigation; and defends life and disability claims.

His commercial trial practice includes a wide spectrum of business disputes involving contracts, securities, and business transactions.

Bob's media practice encompasses litigation involving the First Amendment, defamation, invasion of privacy, and access to records and meetings. In addition, he provides advice and counseling on media issues and pre-publication review of news stories.

Bob is a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and has served as state chair and as a member of its state committee. He is a member of the Federal, Indiana State, and Indianapolis Bar Associations and the Bar Association of the Seventh Federal Circuit.

He received a B.S. degree with honors from Denison University and received his J.D. magna cum laude from the University of Michigan Law School in 1969. He joined Barnes & Thornburg in 1969 and became a partner in 1976. He is listed in The Best Lawyers in America and Who's Who in America.

Bob is admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of Indiana, the U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of Indiana, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.
