OVERVIEW

Benjamin Perry’s practice focuses on minimizing legal risks for companies by providing counseling and training on equal employment opportunity (EEO) and assisting with employment issues. His years of experience in human resources, prior to entering law school, allows him to relate to the needs of employers and identify potential problem areas.

Benjamin defends employers faced with allegations of wrongful discharge, discrimination and harassment, along with wage and hour claims and other employment matters in federal and state court, as well as before administrative agencies. He drafts motions and briefs and assists with preparation for deposition, trial and arbitration. Benjamin also drafts and revises employment policies and handbooks to ensure that employer policies conform to federal, state and local laws and regulations.

He brings the same level of passion and care to other areas of his practice – notably supporting management in labor disputes and NLRB proceedings, advising employers on affirmative action plans, and supporting universities on higher education issues.

Prior to joining Barnes & Thornburg, Benjamin spent nearly a decade as human resources manager for one of the nation’s largest theater chains, where he handled hiring, training and other HR duties.

While earning his law degree, Benjamin enhanced his writing and research skills though his internships with the University of Notre Dame’s Office of the General Counsel and First Source Bank, and his judicial internship in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Indiana. He also served as research assistant to Professor Mark McKenna. He went on to win numerous writing awards and graduated with awards for excellence in in the fields of labor and employment and intellectual property, as well as for excellence in providing assistance to clients during his work with Notre Dame’s Intellectual Property and Entrepreneurship clinic – where he helped address the needs of start-ups, educational organizations, and nonprofits.

Outside the practice of law, Benjamin is passionate about film and spent nearly a decade as a freelance photographer and videographer.
