Marissa Perlmutter represents lenders in a broad range of taxable and tax-exempt multifamily housing financing transactions from origination through servicing. As a partner in Barnes & Thornburg’s Public Finance practice, she brings a lender-side transactional perspective and helps clients structure affordable and conventional multifamily housing financings.

Marissa handles complex multifamily loan matters, including new originations, ongoing servicing issues, and the purchase and sale of loan portfolios. She represents various lenders and has significant experience with Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae loans. Her practice has a strong focus on affordable housing transactions, which use Low-Income Housing Tax Credits and tax-exempt debt, and she also works with conventional loan products.

Her prior experience as a seconded attorney and a consultant informs her transactional work. From 2025 to 2026, she completed a 10-month secondment at a large national bank in its Commercial Real Estate department, focusing on agency finance transactions. Earlier in her career, Marissa served as a senior associate in the financial services risk and regulatory consulting practice of a global professional services firm, where she advised financial institutions on compliance issues and drafted policies, procedures, and related documentation.
