OVERVIEW

With natural approachability and an analytical mind, Liza Hadley prides herself in being able to guide clients through the intellectual property and technology aspects of corporate transactions. Drawing on her background as a patent examiner, she is a quick study and digs into the idiosyncrasies of the businesses she advises in order to provide strategic advice on how to protect and use their IP to add value.

Liza brings combined strengths in helping clients navigate the IP aspects of various transactions and the patent and trademark prosecution process. She is drawn to the complex challenges that arise when working in the realm of intellectual property, which drives her to find the right solutions to suit her clients’ needs. These representations span a variety of technologies, including 3-D and conventional printing, imaging, internal combustion engines, medical devices, power management and delivery systems, and wearables.

Notably, she counsels clients in drafting and negotiating complex commercial and licensing agreements and related contracts, and advises on IP matters in conjunction with financings, mergers and acquisitions. In this arena, she frequently conducts due diligence analysis on IP matters for M&A transactions.

Liza also has a robust patent practice providing strategic development, management and protection of clients’ patent portfolios in the U.S. and abroad, as well as advising on non-infringement and invalidity opinions. She prepares and prosecutes patent applications and manages patent portfolios across multiple jurisdictions and technologies.

Liza deems being a good listener and communicator a vital attribute for providing effective client service, whether with in-house counsel and all levels of business executives, or with fellow attorneys, opposing counsel, and professionals in the patent office.

Before attending law school, Liza was a patent examiner with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office focusing on applications in the field of internal combustion engine control systems. She also interned as an undergraduate in the thermal engineering lab with the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center.

Liza is a lifelong Red Sox fan and sports enthusiast, and a fan of Boston and all it has to offer.
