Prior to her teaching career, Julie practiced civil litigation at Douglas & Ferngren in Valparaiso, Indiana, where she represented clients in employment and civil rights matters in state and federal courts. Her practice encompassed all phases of case preparation — from discovery and motion practice through negotiation and settlement — and included contract drafting, review, and compliance counseling.
At Notre Dame Law School, Julie taught Legal Writing and Legal Research to first-year law students across 29 semesters, consistently earning exceptional student evaluations. Her curriculum emphasized analytical reasoning, objective and persuasive writing, and oral advocacy, and included coursework in contract interpretation, motion drafting, and appellate brief writing.
She also supervised directed readings for upper-division students and prepared students for moot court competition. Most recently, she served as a compliance consultant advising higher education institutions on Title IX training content, translating complex regulatory requirements into accessible, actionable guidance.
