OVERVIEW

Jessamine Pilcher is a natural problem-solver who uses her intellectual property knowledge and scientific and technological background to better understand her clients and work to meet their needs.

Jessamine’s IP focus is in the biomedical, biologics, pharmaceutical, life sciences, and education sectors. A registered patent agent who has worked for a university, she has been on the other side of the table and is able to put herself in the shoes of her business, scientist and inventor clients and assist them with obstacles in the patent process.

Jessamine drafts provisional and non-provisional applications, including Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) applications with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), ranging from medical device, vaccine adjuvants, cancer therapies and novel hybrid therapies to mass spectrometry devices. Further, Jessamine handles virtually all steps during patent prosecution, including preparation of powers of attorney documents, responses to restriction requirements, and office actions. She works with foreign counsel to prosecute foreign applications and procedural requirements. In addition, she counsels clients on patent portfolio strategies and drafts and negotiates license agreements with respect to IP rights.

Prior to joining Barnes & Thornburg full-time, Jessamine gained legal experience as a summer associate and law clerk for the firm and as a project manager and patent agent for the Purdue Research Foundation (PRF). While she was with the PRF, she drafted patent applications, negotiated licenses and other agreements and educated faculty about technology transfer. She also developed claiming strategies for inventors and licensees to assist in commercialization, performed related art searches, assisted with technology disclosure triage, and managed ongoing prosecution.

While earning her undergraduate degree at Purdue University, Jessamine was a coxswain on the Purdue rowing team.
