Jan M. Carroll, retired of counsel in the Indianapolis office of Barnes & Thornburg, represented businesses and individuals in state and federal litigation. Her experience encompassed product liability (medical devices, pharmaceuticals, industrial equipment, agricultural products, and consumer goods); professional liability (doctors and lawyers); real estate and land use (eminent domain, premises liability, historic preservation and zoning); and commercial disputes. She also represented business owners, corporate executives and other high net worth individuals in marital dissolutions.
In addition to her experience as an advocate, Jan is familiar with alternative ways of resolving disputes outside of court, including negotiation, mediation, and arbitration.

Since 1986, she has written the Indiana section of the Media Law Resource Center's annual 50-State Survey: Media Libel Law. She also was responsible for the Indiana section of the Open Government Guide published by The Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press. Co-chair of the firm's Media Practice Group, Jan was a frequent speaker on public access issues in continuing legal education seminars and to such groups as the National Conference of Inspectors General and the Judicial Conference of Indiana.
