Practicing in both state and federal courts, Douglas represented several Fortune 500 corporations in product-related litigation at the trial and appellate levels. Such representations have included major automobile manufacturers in issues pertaining to vehicle design, crashworthiness and occupant restraint systems; multinational manufacturers of industrial chemicals and gases; industrial equipment manufacturers, both domestic and foreign; major household appliance manufacturers and retailers; medical appliance manufacturers; electric power generation and distribution companies as well as a variety of smaller companies throughout the country. Douglas was also involved proactively, counseling many U.S. and foreign corporations in the development of legally sufficient product warnings, instructions, terms and conditions of sale, warranties, and in matters pertaining to claims handling and product liability insurance; and prior to his retirement, represented Whirlpool Corporation throughout the United States and Canada as national product counsel.
Douglas attended Ball State University in Muncie, Ind., graduating summa cum laude in 1977. He attended Indiana University School of Law ' Indianapolis, where he graduated magna cum laude with a J.D. in 1980. He was a member of the American, Indiana State and St. Joseph County Bar Associations.
Douglas joined Barnes & Thornburg in 1980 and became a partner in 1988. He was listed in Who's Who in American Law and in Best Lawyers in America' 2014.
