Brian’s practice focuses on patent and trademark counseling, intellectual property licensing, preparing and prosecuting domestic and international patent applications, and the development and maintenance of large patent portfolios. In addition, he advises on patent infringement and invalidity analysis and product clearance, and is also involved in providing myriad legal opinions.
Brian has experience with international Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) European and Chinese patent preparation and prosecution. He is skilled in coordinating patent protection strategies worldwide, with an emphasis on protecting products designed and made in China and sold in the United States. Handling hundreds of international patent matters has helped Brian to understand the global IP landscape and anticipate and mitigate the challenges and problems that arise in the course of foreign prosecution initiatives.
Brian represents large companies with significant market presence in the automotive, turbine engine, juvenile safety, packaging and plastics industries. His technical focus is on mechanical engineering, electromechanical engineering and polymer materials.
Prior to the law, Brian worked as a system design engineer for Siemens Corporation with responsibilities for design and servicing of air-handling control systems, fuel gas treatment systems, cooling towers and power plants. Working in-house helped Brian appreciate how businesses operate, as well as the importance of budgeting and resource conservation.
