Austin Bersinger is a Chambers-ranked insurance recovery attorney who represents policyholders, including businesses and high-net-worth individuals, both nationally and internationally, in high-stakes coverage disputes. He has successfully recovered more than $500 million on behalf of his clients by helping companies recover insurance proceeds and challenging wrongful denials by insurers — including those involved in complex, multi-layer insurance tower disputes.

Drawing on a unique combination of military leadership experience and deep insight into insurer decision-making, he develops strategic approaches to help clients navigate high-stakes coverage issues. For example, Austin represents clients across a wide range of industries in insurance recovery matters, including coverage denials, claim presentation, bad faith disputes, related appeals, and complex business litigation. He regularly counsels clients on policy interpretation and risk mitigation, and assists with claim presentation following a loss — guiding matters through both trial and appellate proceedings.

Austin’s practice focuses exclusively on representing policyholders in disputes involving directors and officers insurance, construction and OCIP insurance, tax insurance, trade credit insurance, employer liability, commercial property, general liability, excess and umbrella coverage, and bad faith insurance claims. He regularly advises clients following major losses — including fires, structural failures, and other catastrophic events — on claim strategy, coverage preservation, and recovery.

Throughout his career, Austin has served as lead counsel for clients in state and federal courts across the United States and beyond, including in disputes involving financial exposure exceeding $100 million, transactions in Europe and Asia, and complex arbitration issues. Austin’s experience includes litigating and resolving claims involving contested policy interpretations, coverage exclusions, notice and cooperation provisions, and insurer bad faith conduct.

Austin began his legal career as an active-duty officer in the U.S. Air Force, where he served as a criminal prosecutor and as a Special Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Alabama. After fulfilling his military commitment, he entered civil practice, representing both domestic insurance companies and insurers in the Lloyd’s market in coverage disputes throughout the United States. Austin has been published nationally and regularly speaks to audiences across the country on a variety of insurance coverage topics.
