OVERVIEW

Dr. Amit Datta advises on a broad range of domestic and international corporate and commercial matters and represents clients in complex litigation and arbitration proceedings with a focus on intellectual property matters. As part of the firm’s European practice group, Amit provides targeted legal advice and strategic insight for European clients doing business in the United States and U.S. clients doing the same overseas.

Having worked in a variety of legal roles in multiple countries, including Germany, India, Spain and the U.S., Amit has a profound understanding of the law in different jurisdictions and the various cultural and business nuisances. This knowledge provides him with a unique skill-set enabling him to advise legally and strategically on inbound and outbound transactions, and build and foster considerable and long-lasting relationships.

Due to his extensive work for international clients in the technology, telecommunications and media sector and his technical affinity, Amit guides clients through complex contract negotiations and disputes, specifically in IP matters. Clients value his academic thoroughness combined with his hands-on mentality and his profound industry insights.

Amit obtained a Ph.D. from the Humboldt University, Berlin, for his research in copyright law, comparing the remuneration of authors in Germany and the United States. Before joining Barnes & Thornburg, he was a senior associate of the IP department in the Berlin office of Hengeler Mueller, a leading German law firm, and responsible for the firm’s India desk. As part of a secondment, Amit worked for six months in the litigation department of a global digital marketplace and retailer.

Amit is licensed to practice law in Germany; he is not admitted to the practice of law in the United States.
