Alice J. Springer is a partner in the South Bend and Elkhart, Indiana, offices of Barnes & Thornburg. She is a member of the firm's Litigation Department and the Construction Law, Commercial Litigation, and Appellate and Critical Motions practice groups.
Alice has worked with a wide variety of clients in the construction industry. Her experience has included matters related to construction defects, mechanic's lien issues and general construction project related litigation.
Alice has also represented financial institutions in cases involving commercial lending disputes, priority of security interests, commercial loan workout litigation and defense of mortgage fraud claims. In addition, she has experience advising and representing clients on breach of contract and warranty claims arising under the Uniform Commercial Code, and consumer warranty statutes in addition to various contract-related claims, including non-compete and tortious interference claims.
Alice graduated with highest distinction from Purdue University in 2001 with a B.A. in communications. While at Purdue, she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. She received her J.D. from Valparaiso University Law School in 2004, graduating magna cum laude. During law school she was an associate editor of the Valparaiso University Law Review.
Upon graduation, Alice served as law clerk to the Honorable Christopher A. Nuechterlein, United States Magistrate Judge for the Northern District of Indiana, South Bend Division.
Alice is a member of the Federal Bar Association (N.D. Ind. Chapter), the Indiana State Bar Association, the St. Joseph County Bar Association and the Robert A. Grant Inn of Court where she currently serves as the program director. She is admitted to practice in Indiana and the United States District Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of Indiana, the Central District of Illinois and the Eastern District of Michigan, as well as the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth, Seventh and Federal Circuits.
Alice is a former member of the board of directors of Big Brothers Big Sisters of St. Joseph County. Alice has been recognized on the Indiana Rising Stars list by Indiana Super Lawyers magazine (2010-2018). In 2012, she was recognized as one of Michiana's Forty Under 40 honorees.
