Mark Crandley: I Am Barnes & Thornburg

Mark Crandley

I AM...

  • Primarily an appellate attorney and have been honored to be a co-chair of our Appellate Practice Group for many years. I have taken appeals in most federal circuits and argued many times before the Indiana Supreme Court and Indiana Court of Appeals.
  • The father of two teenagers, both of whom are very musically inclined and play multiple instruments. I, however, cannot carry a tune.
  • A volunteer with The Appellate Project or TAP, a national organization that works to provide mentoring for law students of diverse backgrounds who are interested in appellate practice. I have had the honor of mentoring students across the Midwest as they look for opportunities in appellate law.
  • Originally from the Philadelphia area. While I have lived in Indiana for 30 years, I remain a passionate fan of the Eagles, Phillies and Flyers. The Pacers are my NBA team, however.
  • A former journalist and worked as a newspaper reporter for several years before going back to law school. The highlight of my journalism career was interviewing Kareem Abdul Jabbar while he was on a book tour.
  • A supporter of the ADL’s mission of combating hate and antisemitism. I serve on the Indiana advisory board for the organization.
  • An avid history buff and will eagerly discuss almost any topic, particularly legal history and the life of Abraham Lincoln (as anyone who has been in my office can tell you)
  • The owner of two incredibly sweet black labradoodles, Violet and Juniper. I never hesitate to share pictures.
  • A supporter of libraries and their mission to serve the community. My daughter and I frequent our local library almost every weekend. I also have the honor to serve on the advisory board for the Indiana University-Indianapolis library.
  • A lover of the outdoors and, along with my family, have visited all but two state parks in Indiana.
