Barry McGinley: I Am Barnes & Thornburg

I AM...

• A devout Catholic and a follower of Jesus. My family and I are parishioners at Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Carmel, Indiana, and our faith is at the center of how I try to live my life each day.
• A husband. I married my best friend and the woman of my dreams in 2024. My wife, Lily, motivates me every day and is truly the mitochondria of our family.
• A father. Our daughter, Daisy, is 16 months old, going on 16 years. We are also expecting a baby boy just before Christmas this year.
• A sports lover who firmly believes everyone should root for the Colts, Pacers, and Notre Dame football—and that is a completely unbiased opinion. I don’t just enjoy watching sports; I love competing, too. I am always up for a game, whether it’s pickup basketball, pickleball, golf, cornhole, KanJam, tennis, bocce ball, tossing a frisbee, or throwing around the pigskin.
• A food lover. My wife and I love trying new restaurants and finding local favorites. But when in doubt, we go with the most reliable option: pizza.
• A fitness enthusiast. I enjoy lifting weights, running, and just about any activity that gets me moving.
• A competitor. To me, just about everything can become a competition. Whether it is sports, a bracket challenge, fantasy football, or game night, I am all in. Let’s just say I do not believe every kid deserves a trophy. Sometimes the lesson is in the loss.
• Irish. My great-grandparents came to the U.S. from Donegal, Ireland in the early 1900s and opened what is now Indianapolis’s oldest Irish pub, The Golden Ace Inn. In my family, St. Patrick’s Day is not just a holiday, it is Christmas in March.
• A former wrestler. I started wrestling in kindergarten and continued through college, ultimately wrestling at the University of Indianapolis. It is a sport that shaped me in many ways and will always hold a special place in my heart.
• A professional who takes pride in approaching the legal profession with kindness, respect, and professionalism toward everyone involved. It’s not just about producing good work; it’s about how you carry yourself while doing it. In a profession that can often be demanding and adversarial, I try to be steady, dependable, and respectful in every interaction.
