Barnes & Thornburg Adds Public Finance Lawyer Marissa Perlmutter in Washington, D.C.

Perlmutter rejoins her public finance colleagues who arrived earlier this year

Eight months after Barnes & Thornburg’s transformational hire of a 39-lawyer public finance and infrastructure group, Marissa E. Perlmutter joins as a partner in Washington, D.C., further strengthening the firm’s national finance capabilities and expanding its experience in real estate finance and multifamily housing transactions.

Perlmutter focuses her practice on real estate financing. She represents lenders in a broad range of taxable and tax-exempt multifamily housing financing deals from origination through servicing.

“Marissa brings a valuable combination of transactional experience and financial services knowledge to our growing finance platform,” said Richard Hall, chair of Barnes & Thornburg’s Government Services and Finance Department. “Her experience representing lenders in multifamily housing finance transactions, coupled with her background in financial services risk and regulation, will be an excellent complement to the depth we have built across our national finance practices.”

Perlmutter joins from Ballard Spahr, where she worked with the public finance group that joined Barnes & Thornburg earlier this year. That move vaulted Barnes & Thornburg to the upper echelons of firms advising on complex public finance deals and marked the first of five group acquisitions in a historic year of lateral hiring. Perlmutter also served as a seconded attorney at Capital One and senior associate in PricewaterhouseCoopers’ Financial Services Risk and Regulatory practice, where she advised financial institutions on compliance matters.

“We are delighted to have Marissa rejoin our team,” said Valarie Allen, vice chair of the Government Services and Finance Department. “Her experience spans several areas that are increasingly important to our clients, particularly in housing and real estate finance. Marissa understands the practical considerations involved in complex financing transactions and brings a thoughtful, business-oriented approach to her work.”

Perlmutter earned her J.D. from The George Washington University Law School and her B.S. from Cornell University.

“I’m happy to reunite with my public finance colleagues at Barnes & Thornburg,” said Perlmutter. “The firm’s collaborative approach and deep experience across public finance, real estate finance and other sophisticated financial matters provide an excellent platform to continue serving clients and growing my practice. I look forward to contributing to the firm’s continued growth.”
