Barnes & Thornburg Welcomes New Attorneys and Legal Professionals

Barnes & Thornburg has added litigation and professional responsibility attorneys and legal professionals to its Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles and Washington, D.C., offices.

An of counsel in the Washington, D.C., office, Brian Foster concentrates his practice on representing policyholders in complex insurance coverage matters. He has deep experience managing discovery and e-discovery, including large document collections and reviews, and has experience litigating motions seeking sanctions for alleged spoliation of evidence. Foster earned his J.D. from the University of Notre Dame Law School in 2007 and his B.A. from Michigan State University in 1995.

Amy DeVan, a professional responsibility attorney in the firm’s general counsel’s office, calls upon her deep experience in ethics work to advise firm attorneys and staff on a wide range of conflict matters. Her practice includes a focus on legal ethics, professional responsibility, risk management and compliance. DeVan earned her J.D. from the University of Colorado Law School and her B.A. from the University of Northern Colorado.

Also a professional responsibility attorney in the firm’s general counsel’s office, Kelley Harvilla counsels firm attorneys on the legal ethics and professional responsibility matters that occur in the practice of law. She earned her J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School in 2007 and her B.A. from the University of Michigan in 2005.

Natalie Klusek, the firm’s chief human resources officer, brings over 25 years of human resources experience to Barnes & Thornburg. She focuses her attention on forward-thinking approaches when managing business operations, implementing process improvements and optimizing talent strategies to enable improved business results. Klusek earned her B.A. in psychology from Monmouth College in 1997.

A nurse paralegal in the Dallas office, Sarah McKinnon helps attorneys prepare for commercial litigation, expert depositions and trials. With over a decade of experience as a nurse, she offers an extensive background in medical research in rehabilitation, trauma, geriatrics, emergency room care and nursing education. McKinnon earned her Vocational Nursing License from Howard College in 2011, her A.S. in nursing from Angelo State University in 2012, her B.S. in nursing from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in 2015 and her M.S. in nursing education from Angelo State University in 2022.

Stephanie Synol, a staff attorney in the Chicago office, has an expansive background representing clients in a variety of complex commercial, product liability, toxic tort and consumer class action cases in state and federal courts. She earned her J.D. from Northwestern Pritzker School of Law in 2003 and her B.A. from DePaul University in 1999.
