CHICAGO – Barnes & Thornburg partner Martín Montes has been named the 2023 Latino Lawyer of the Year by HLAI, a not-for-profit corporation serving the Hispanic legal community in Illinois, for his service and significant contributions to improving the quality of the legal profession and the administration of justice.
Montes, a government services attorney in the firm’s Chicago office, focuses his practice on representing clients in the energy, utility, healthcare, education, and retail sectors on a variety of issues before the executive and legislative branches of state and federal government.
As a first-generation Mexican-American, Montes has been a longtime advocate of the Latino community and has held leadership positions at HLAI and several other organizations, such as the Hispanic National Bar Association, the National Museum of Mexican Art, and the Mexican-American Legal Defense and Educational Fund.
Montes is passionate about community outreach, service, and programming, as well as advocating for diversity, equity and inclusion within and beyond his legal practice. He is a Leadership Greater Chicago Fellow and has been named to Chicago United’s Business Leaders of Color list.
Montes will be recognized at the HLAI & HLAI Charities Black Tie Gala, Installation Ceremony and Awards Dinner on Sept. 29 at the Theater on the Lake in Chicago.
The Latino Layer of the Year Award recognizes an established lawyer who promotes HLAI’s mission of high standards of competence, professionalism and integrity with and among Hispanic attorneys and the Hispanic communities within the State of Illinois.
