Eric J. Beste has been named the new Partner-in-Charge of Barnes & Thornburg’s San Diego office, where he has practiced for nearly four years. Beste succeeds Troy Zander, who started the firm’s San Diego office in 2018 and will be stepping down from office leadership to focus on his venture and direct lending finance practice.
Beste, a former Assistant U.S. Attorney and Department of Justice supervisor in one of the busiest federal districts in the country, focuses his practice on white collar criminal defense, investigations and compliance, and complex commercial litigation. He joined the firm in May 2019 after more than two decades prosecuting financial frauds and public corruption.
“Eric has been a significant contributor to the growth and success of the San Diego office. He is a collaborative leader who will continue to build out our capabilities in the region,” said Andrew J. Detherage, firm managing partner. “Troy’s leadership in San Diego provides a strong foundation for the future of the San Diego office that we will continue to build on.”
Beste frequently represents clients in complex financial fraud investigations and prosecutions, with a focus on healthcare, government contracts, and cross-border financial transactions. Clients also rely on Beste for counseling and monitoring guidance regarding the Bank Secrecy Act, Anti-Money Laundering regulations, and U.S. export control laws.
