MINNEAPOLIS – Barnes & Thornburg is proud to announce that Minneapolis-based attorney Michael Boulette has received the 2019 Hennepin County Bar Association (HCBA) Excellence Award for Providing Pro Bono Service. The award recognizes Boulette’s contributions to the legal profession and the community.
Boulette is one of 10 attorney members recognized by the HCBA for the award, which he earned by providing pro bono services to family law clients in domestic violence, child advocacy, and family law matters.
He also was instrumental in a pro bono case argued in front of the Minnesota Supreme Court; he was appointed by the Minnesota State Bar Association to serve as one of three counsel arguing as the respondent in In re the Matter of J.M.M. The case addressed the right of an unmarried father to receive notice of a change of his children’s name, and remains under advisement at Minnesota’s highest court.
“Michael has a strong belief that everyone deserves representation in our justice system and his work in this case, and other family law cases, is a strong illustration of his dedication to this belief,” said Connie Lahn, Minneapolis managing partner. “This award is well-deserved and exemplifies Michael’s commitment to improving the lives of others through his practice and exemplary pro bono efforts.”
As a member of the firm’s Family Law Group, Boulette advises on divorce proceedings involving multimillion-dollar estates, closely held businesses and family partnerships, intergenerational wealth and trusts, valuation issues, fraud and concealed assets, and global wealth. In addition, Michael regularly serves as a family law appellate counsel on cases before both the Minnesota Court of Appeals and the Minnesota Supreme Court.
The HCBA award will be presented at the group’s annual meeting on May 30, 2019. The Hennepin County Bar Association is the largest of Minnesota’s local bar associations, with a membership of over 8,000.
