Government Services Lawyer Joins Barnes & Thornburg

INDIANAPOLIS –Barnes & Thornburg LLP has boosted its government services capabilities in the Hoosier state with the addition of Sabra Northam, a lawyer and former legislative liaison at the Indiana Prosecuting Attorneys Council (IPAC), a non-partisan, independent state judicial branch agency. Northam joins the firm’s Government Services and Finance Department as an attorney in the Indianapolis office.

During her time at IPAC, Northam developed and proposed strategic legislative plans to support public safety goals of the organization. Additionally, she analyzed, tracked and articulated potential effects of legislation on the organization.

“Sabra is one of the brightest up-and-coming lawyers working in and around state government today and is a voice respected by the decision-makers in the statehouse. She possesses a keen understanding of the legislative process, which will provide a great deal of value for our clients who seek to have their interests represented at the statehouse,” said Brian Burdick, managing partner of the Indianapolis office whose practice focuses on government services and finance. “We are pleased to welcome Sabra and look forward to working alongside her on behalf of our clients.”

Prior to her work at IPAC, Northam served Indiana University as assistant director for government relations, public affairs and government relations. In this position, Northam researched and tracked bills, and assisted the government affairs team in its interactions with elected officials, staff, university administrators, lobbyists and advocates to further the university's interests.

Northam is active in the community, serving as secretary of the Indiana Leadership Forum and on the board of the Indianapolis Downtown GOP Club. She is also a past participant in the Richard G. Lugar Excellence in Public Service Series.

She is a graduate of the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law. She earned her undergraduate degree in political science from Butler University in 2009.
