Former JPMorgan Chase Counsel Rejoins Barnes & Thornburg in Chicago

CHICAGO – Barnes & Thornburg LLP announced today that Brett Pyrdek, recently an in-house litigator and assistant general counsel at JPMorgan Chase & Co. in London, is returning to the firm’s Litigation department as a partner in the Chicago office. Pyrdek will concentrate his practice on commercial litigation and regulatory investigations involving financial institutions.

During his tenure at JPMorgan Chase, Pyrdek handled litigation matters, disputes, regulatory inquiries, and internal investigations. Most recently, he was a member of the team responsible for litigation and regulatory enforcement matters related to the bank's operations in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

Pyrdek began his legal career with Barnes & Thornburg as an associate working on commercial litigation matters, including representing corporate policyholders in insurance coverage disputes.

“Brett brings a unique combination of private practice and in-house experience, especially within a highly regulated industry like financial services where investigative and enforcement activities vary across international jurisdictions,” said Mark Rust, managing partner of Barnes & Thornburg’s Chicago office. “We’re excited to have him back at the firm where he’ll bring to bear deep knowledge and high-level counsel for our clients.”

Further evidence of Barnes & Thornburg’s successful recruiting strategy in Chicago and across the country, Pyrdek is the sixth partner and ninth attorney overall to join its second largest office this year. Notably, the firm has added private wealth attorney Stephanie Denby; product liability attorney James Murdica; and an intellectual property team comprised of Christopher Dolan, John Gabrielides and Philip Jones.

Pyrdek received his M.B.A and B.S. from the University of Illinois College of Business at Urbana-Champaign. He earned his J.D. from University of Illinois College of Law. He is admitted to practice before the United States District Courts for the Northern District of Illinois and the Northern District of Indiana.

With more than 600 attorneys and other legal professionals, Barnes & Thornburg is one of the largest law firms in the country. The firm serves clients worldwide from 13 offices in Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Delaware, Indiana, Los Angeles, Michigan, Minneapolis, Ohio, and Washington, D.C.
