ATLANTA – Stephen G. Weizenecker, a partner in Barnes & Thornburg LLP’s Atlanta office, was recently appointed by Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal to the Georgia Film, Music and Digital Entertainment Advisory Commission.
Weizenecker focuses his legal practice on production/tax incentives, financing and intellectual property matters for clients in the film, television and technology industries.
The Georgia Film, Music and Digital Entertainment Advisory Commission works with the governor and the state’s Department of Economic Development to fulfill its mission to attract production to Georgia and to implement best practices to support the affected industries.
As a member of the advisory commission, Weizenecker will leverage not only his experience as an entertainment lawyer, but also his knowledge of worldwide production incentives. He has advised numerous government officials at the municipal, state and country levels on establishing production incentive programs and frequently works with clients to maximize their production incentives. Weizenecker is a frequent lecturer and is often quoted by the media on production incentives.
“I am pleased to have the opportunity to work with production professionals and educate them on Georgia’s tax incentives, diverse film locations and production resources,” Weizenecker said. “The state of Georgia is becoming increasingly more appealing for content creators in the feature film, television, and videogame and interactive entertainment industries. I am excited to work with the advisory commission and help to continue growing production in Georgia.”
Weizenecker is on the governing committee of the American Bar Association’s (ABA) Forum on Sports and Entertainment Industries. He is also chair of the Entertainment, Sports and Entertainment Law Section of the State Bar of Georgia.
