New Economy New Rules: Net Neutrality Facts, Fiction & Fallout: What impact will changes have on tech companies and the open Internet?
Why is there even a debate about net neutrality? This issue is as black and white as choosing freedom or captivity, right? "Keep the Internet open and equal for everybody," is a great slogan, but is it really that simple? Could fighting for the status quo be the eventual death knell of broadband quality and consistency.
Join us on June 27 for a lively discussion about the impact of recent rulings by the FCC and Appeals Court, as well as predictions for what we'll see next from a panel of experts who understand the intricacies of net neutrality and its governing bodies.
MODERATOR for this panel, Barry Umansky, is a senior fellow with the Digital Policy Institute and a telecommunications professor at Ball State University. He served for seven years as an attorney at the Federal Communications Commission in Washington, D.C., and in July 2011, he was appointed by the Chairman of the FCC to serve on the FCC's Consumer Advocacy Committee. In March 2013, he was reappointed to that federal advisory committee and was named co-chair of that federal advisory committee's Internet Protocol Transition Working Group.
