Note to Employers: USCIS Says to Continue Use of Current Version of Form I-9

The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced that until further notice, employers should continue using the current Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification (edition date July 17, 2017), even though the expiration date of Aug. 31, 2019, has passed.

Form I-9 is used for verifying the identity and employment authorization of individuals hired for employment in the United States. All employers must ensure proper completion of Form I-9 for each individual they hire for employment in the U.S.

While the USCIS is expected to release a new version of Form I-9 without any significant edits from the current version, employers were directed in late August by the USCIS to continue use of the current version of Form I-9 until a revised version is made available.
