In Westlaw Today Q&A, Managing Partner Andrew Detherage Discusses Firm’s Multiple Lateral Group Acquisitions
In a Q&A interview with Westlaw Today, Barnes & Thornburg Managing Partner Andrew Detherage discussed the firm’s historic hiring spree this year following the addition of a 14-lawyer healthcare and litigation team in Raleigh, N.C.
The article, published on Sept. 11, reported that the firm has also conducted lateral group acquisitions to deepen its capabilities in public finance and infrastructure, insurance recovery, entertainment and white-collar defense.
“For many years, our strategy has been to hire the best talent that can perform better on our national platform so we can get better as a firm and provide our clients the highest level of service,” Detherage said. “I think our strategy has proven successful given how well each of these groups has integrated into our firm. Nonetheless, we also develop lawyers and promote from within. We have had significant success promoting from within as well.”
Detherage noted that the firm has hired more than 70 partners and 130 lawyers this year, leading to positive outcomes such as strategic growth of key practices, enhanced cross-selling, improved client service and the ability to provide even more value to clients.
“In addition, our laterals make our partnership better and reinforce the strong culture we have built and maintained,” he added. “I believe that is a testament to the culture we have built at the firm. And that has been the story of our success.”
