Peter is dedicated to developing strategies that reflect his clients’ combined business and legal goals, especially in highly competitive and rapidly evolving industries.

Intellectual property attorney Peter Siavelis concentrates his practice on U.S. and foreign patent and trademark litigation, counseling and portfolio development. Peter is dedicated to developing strategies that reflect his clients’ combined business and legal goals, especially in highly competitive and rapidly evolving industries.

Peter represents clients in wide variety of technical fields while helping them develop, enforce, acquire and license valuable patent and trademark rights. In addition to his enforcement and litigation experience, Peter develops and implements patent and trademark development strategies for clients before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and abroad.

Because of his considerable experience developing and enforcing U.S. and foreign patent and trademark rights, Peter provides significant guidance for due diligence projects involving the evaluation of IP portfolios for strategic acquisitions. 

Peter counsels and prosecutes patent applications in the mechanical and electrical arts. His experience includes applications related to sports and fitness equipment, wearable active monitoring technology, commercial and residential ventilation equipment, beverage containers, lighting fixtures, LEDs, computer server hardware and cabinets, infrared, ultrasonic and acoustic sensor assemblies, medical devices and packaging containers, window hardware, plumbing fixtures and hardware, plastic part molding, concrete conduit repair, diesel engine sensors and monitoring, as well as semiconductor fabrication, food processing and commercial printing.

Prior to the legal field, Peter worked as a design engineer responsible for the design of compressed air systems used in industrial applications worldwide. While in engineering school, Peter interned as a petroleum engineer with the world’s largest publicly traded international oil and gas company.

  • Defended the leading football equipment manufacturer against charges of infringing a U.S. patent directed to an energy attenuation system for use in a football helmet; obtained favorable early settlement for client
  • Defended a lighting products company against allegations of false advertising and trademark infringement for tactical flashlights
  • Defended an Italian company in a patent infringement lawsuit alleging infringement of a U.S. patent directed to a multi-function cooking appliance 
  • Defended a leading archery company against allegations of infringing a patent directed to an archery training bow 
  • Represented a growing beverage company in two trademark litigations and two TTAB proceedings focusing on ready to drink (RTD) premium cocktails 
  • Represented a leading global healthcare company in a patent infringement action involving an over-the-counter product for treatment of heartburn and gastroesophageal reflux disease (Pepcid Complete®).  Judgment of non-infringement provided a trial court victory that was affirmed on appeal through the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court 
  • Defended a major lighting products company against allegations of infringing patents directed to LED flashlights; case resolved on favorable settlement terms within weeks of complaint being filed and prior art identified 
  • Represented the largest manufacturer of residential ventilation products in offensive and defensive patent infringement actions involving bathroom exhaust fans and accessories; case settled on favorable terms 
  • Represented a global healthcare company in a patent infringement action involving the Clindesse® product; case was favorably resolved during fact discovery 
  • Represented a global firearms company in declaratory judgment action for non-infringement and invalidity of patent directed to a firearms accessory 
  • Defended a global healthcare company against allegations of infringing patents directed to Nuvigil, a drug intended to treat sleep disorders, and successfully argued for the exclusion of secondary considerations based on discovery violations; case settled favorably after oral argument on appeal to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit 
  • Defended the world leader in 3G and next-generation mobile technologies against allegations of infringing semiconductor packaging patents; case settled on favorable terms after the court-appointed technical expert agreed with the client’s non-infringement defenses 
  • Defended football equipment manufacturer against charges of infringing U.S. patents directed to smart-helmet technology; obtained early favorable settlement for client
