James Van Horn Elected to American Bankruptcy Institute’s Board of Directors

WASHINGTON, D.C. – James Van Horn, a partner in Barnes & Thornburg’s Finance, Insolvency and Restructuring Department in Washington, D.C., has been elected to the American Bankruptcy Institute’s (ABI) board of directors, where he will serve a three-year term.

Van Horn is a long-standing member of the ABI and this new role is the culmination of those many years of service. His appointment was announced at ABI's 2019 Annual Spring Meeting April 11-14 in Washington, D.C.

He is a member of the advisory boards for the ABI’s Georgetown Views from the Bench Conference and the Delaware Views from the Bench Conference, and also of the Mid-Atlantic Endowment Committee. He is former co-chair of the ABI Mid-Atlantic Bankruptcy Conference.

Van Horn, who joined Barnes & Thornburg in 2018, works with senior management, investors, creditors and other stakeholders in matters ranging from out-of-court workouts and prepackaged and prearranged Chapter 11 reorganizations to cram down plans of reorganization and sales of substantially all assets. He represents corporate debtors, secured creditors, asset purchasers, official committees of unsecured creditors, liquidating trustees, receivers, investors and other stakeholders in bankruptcy courts and other courts throughout the United States.

The ABI is the nation’s largest association of bankruptcy professionals, with over 12,000 members.

With more than 600 attorneys and other legal professionals, Barnes & Thornburg is one of the largest law firms in the country. The firm serves clients worldwide from 14 offices in Atlanta, California, Chicago, Delaware, Indiana, Michigan, Minneapolis, Ohio, Texas and Washington, D.C.
