Attorneys and Legal Professionals Join Barnes & Thornburg in Midwest, D.C.

Barnes & Thornburg LLP has added new government and intellectual property attorneys, and Chinese and Japanese client service legal professionals to its Chicago, Indianapolis and Washington, D.C., offices.

Lauren Hancock, an attorney in the Washington, D.C., office, brings considerable knowledge and experience about the workings of government entities to her clients. Having served as counsel to Georgia Sen. David Perdue’s chief of staff and in the Georgia Governor’s Internship Program for current Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue, she works to help clients advance in their business endeavors where they involve government procurement and policy matters.

Lauren is a process- and results-driven government services attorney. Her objective is to offer clients strategic legal and public affairs advice particularly in the areas of budget, finance, banking, fundraising, and election campaigns.

She earned her J.D. from Mercer University Walter F. George School of Law in 2014 and her B.S. in management from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 2011.

Combining an intimate knowledge of Japanese business culture and a keen ability to foster relationships, Kazumi Iino serves as the firm’s head of Japanese client services. Having worked in Japan and in the United States, Kazumi leverages his executive level business experience and interest in the law to help clients in their startup and expansion endeavors.

Based in the Indianapolis office, Kazumi brings nearly 25 years of experience providing business counsel and legal services to attorneys and clients – particularly in the areas of labor and employment, human resources, financing and intellectual property – supporting the development of new business for Japanese clients doing business in the U.S., as well as U.S. clients doing business in Japan.

He earned his MBA from Florida International University.

With civil litigation experience representing both plaintiffs and defendants, Sarah Jin brings a versatile background and a detail-oriented nature to product liability and commercial litigation matters, specifically to clients in the drug and medical device industry. She is valued for her strong writing skills and ability to develop strategic ways to advocate for her clients’ needs.

Sarah, an associate in the Chicago office, truly enjoys learning about the businesses she works with, including the processes they develop and implement as well as the products they create.

She earned her J.D. from Loyola University Chicago School of Law in 2014 and her B.A. in English from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2010.

With a strong knowledge of the business climate in China, a personalized client-service approach, and bilingual skills in Chinese and English, Octavia Xu is a team player who is willing to go the extra mile to assist attorneys and their clients with their business development and legal needs.

Octavia is Barnes & Thornburg’s Chinese liaison-business management consultant and helps bridge business, cultural and language gaps by analyzing Chinese companies’ legal needs in the U.S. market. She is based in the Chicago office and serves as a link between the firm and various Chinese business entities, and government and legal officials.

She earned her LLM from the University of New Hampshire Franklin Pierce School of Law in 2012 and her bachelor of laws from Macau University of Science and Technology in China in 2010.
