As predicted, 2014 is and will continue to be a critical year for stakeholders involved with managing the vapor intrusion (VI) pathway. VI remains a remedy driver that creates significant legal, technical and regulatory challenges to the site closure process and your VI playbook needs to be tailored to your specific site, risk tolerances and sophistication levels.

The next session of our webinar series will focus on the 2014 Association for Environmental Health and Science (AEHS) Foundation's 24th Annual International Conference on Soil, Water, Energy and Air in San Diego. Over the few years this Conference has focused on the VI pathway and attracts key stakeholders including US EPA, State regulators, industry, and consultants. US EPA again sponsored an all-day session on the VI Pathway.
Specifically, this webinar will focus on the following topics:

• Update on a new national vapor intrusion mitigation standard and certification program
• Methane hazards (including an overview of IDEM's new technical guidance on methane monitoring)
• US EPA's vision of soil gas safe communities
• Summary of David Gillay's presentation on the legal and practical issues with long term stewardship obligations
• Brief update on short-term indoor air levels for TCE and new guidance issued by Massachusetts DEP
• Potential increased demands for VI sampling with new studies on spatial and temporal variation

In addition, we will summarize our March 5 webinar on IDEM’s draft interim Vapor Intrusion Remedy Selection and Implementation Guide and an April 9 presentation (which was the first time IDEM has publically shared its views) by IDEM’s VI technical leader on this draft interim Guide.
