Tony Prather Receives Distinguished Service Award from Maurer School of Law

INDIANAPOLIS – R. Anthony (Tony) Prather, a partner in Barnes & Thornburg’s Indianapolis office, was honored with the Indiana University Maurer School of Law’s Distinguished Service Award presented to prestigious alumni. He received the award during a luncheon ceremony in Bloomington, Indiana, on Oct. 16.

“Tony is a valued member of our community and Barnes & Thornburg; this recognition is well deserved,” said Brian Burdick, Indianapolis office managing partner. “Among the many civic organizations he is involved with, Tony chooses to give back to his profession by serving as a mentor for lawyers at the firm as well as law students at the Indiana University Maurer School of Law and the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law. We are proud of his recognition.”

As a member of the firm’s Labor and Employment Law Department and vice chair of the Higher Education Practice Group, Prather has a full-service practice representing management interests exclusively in all aspects of labor and employment law and litigation including workplace investigations, audits, supervisory training, defense of discrimination and retaliation claims, preparation of and defense of affirmative action plans.

Prather is a member of the IU Maurer School of Law Black Law Student Association Advisory Board and is a former member of the school’s Alumni Board and Board of Visitors. He earned his law degree from the Indiana University Maurer School of Law in 1983 and his B.A. from Indiana University in 1980.

The Distinguished Service Award was established in 1997 to recognize law school alumni who have distinguished themselves in service to their communities and the school in ways that far exceed traditional business, professional and civic duties.

With more than 600 attorneys and other legal professionals, Barnes & Thornburg is one of the largest law firms in the country. The firm serves clients worldwide from 13 offices in Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Delaware, Indiana, Los Angeles, Michigan, Minneapolis, Ohio, and Washington, D.C.
