Program Overview
Please join us on Oct. 1, 2013 for this update and guidance on critical issues facing employers of all sizes.
Could You Withstand a Wage/Hour Audit?
Nathan Baker
With the renewed emphasis from the Department of Labor on the use of independent contractors and the perceived overuse of exemptions from overtime under the FLSA, the number of employers facing audits and/or investigations into their wage practices has increased. Employers must try to insulate themselves from liability by reviewing and analyzing their wage practices. We will discuss particular areas the DOL is emphasizing and common pitfalls to avoid.
To Run or Not to Run - That is the Background Check Question?
Various federal agencies have chimed in on background checks but employers need to get the scoop on their prospective hires somehow. Thus it is critical for companies to understand the risks and best practices of background checks. We will review the latest updates on this issue, including the social media angle, and provide input on how to effectively use these checks within the law - and still help your business goals.
