Barnes & Thornburg is proud to announce that intellectual property partners Felicia Boyd, Jeff Stone and Mark Nelson have been recognized in the 2019 Intellectual Asset Management (IAM) Patent 1000. The annual list, now in its eighth edition, identifies the top patent professionals in key jurisdictions around the world.
As stated by IAM, “Barnes & Thornburg’s patent group is in fine fettle; not only is it in hot demand for prosecution in medical devices and other high-tech domains, it has achieved significant wins in pharmaceutical litigation and has a burgeoning inter partes review practice.”
The Minneapolis Intellectual Property Department received a bronze band ranking for its litigation work.
A past co-chair of Barnes & Thornburg’s IP Department, Boyd, who practices in the Minneapolis office, represents clients in various proceedings before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, district courts and federal courts of appeals. Her industry experience spans financial and investment services, medical devices, software, music, pharmaceuticals and manufactured goods, among others. Boyd is also a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, The London Court of International Arbitration, ArbitralWomen, and the complex commercial litigation panel of the American Arbitration Association.
Stone also practices in the Minneapolis office and focuses his practice on strategic patent counseling, patent prosecution, and portfolio development advice, including significant experience with patent opinions, due diligence, freedom-to-operate analyses and post-grant review. He also has experience in the medical device industry, having worked for 12 years in various research and development positions at large multinational corporations and startups.
Nelson, who practices in the firm’s Dallas office, has more than 20 years of patent litigation, copyright, trademark and trade secret experience, both in federal courts and before the International Trade Commission. His patent work spans all areas of high-technology, including semiconductors, telecommunications, financial services technology, gaming, internet services, medical devices, biotech, and computer software and hardware, to name a few.
The IAM Patent 1000 is an independent publication regarded as a resource for identifying individual and firm patent expertise in the U.S. For the 2019 edition, IAM conducted qualitative research to find outstanding firms and individuals across multiple jurisdictions using criteria that included depth of knowledge, market presence, and positive peer and client feedback.
