Janet Gertz of the San Diego office moderated a panel discussion on cryptocurrency issues in bankruptcy law at the 2019 Southern District of California Judicial Conference on April 3. Janet arranged the panel, which included Trace Schmeltz of the Chicago office; a lawyer from the Securities and Exchange Commission Division of Enforcement’s Cyber Unit; a securities law professor from the University of San Diego School of Law; and a trial lawyer from Baker Marquart, LLP. Their program, “Cryptocurrency, Now Coming to a [Bankruptcy] Courtroom Near You,” was very well-received by the audience, which included approximately 50 District Court judges, magistrate judges, and bankruptcy court judges from the Southern District of California, along with the U.S. Attorney, other federal court personnel and bar association leadership.
