Sarah Hawk: I Am Barnes & Thornburg

I AM...

  • A native of Cebu City, Philippines, who moved to the U.S. when I was 3 years old. My heritage is Chinese, Spanish, Filipino and Greek.
  • Married to a wonderful partner, my husband, Shawn Gross. We have a 17-year-old, Zoe, and my 19-year-old niece, Madison, also lives with us
  • An avid runner who has completed nine marathons in Anchorage, Chicago, Atlanta, Disney World, Marine Corps in Washington, D.C., and London, among others
  • One who enjoys traveling to countries off the beaten path – Iceland, the Galápagos Islands, Machu Picchu, and Tanzania, where I did volunteer teaching
  • A Latin and Greek major who studied ancient archeology on a Fulbright scholarship in Rome, Italy; I taught high school Latin before attending law school
  • On the advisory board of the Georgia Asylum and Immigration Network, which provides pro bono legal assistance to immigrant victims of violence and human trafficking
  • A pet lover! Our family has dogs, cats, fish, and four new chicks that we are raising as pets (and for fresh eggs).
  • The oldest of five children – one sister and three brothers
  • A former news and features editor and reporter for The Red & Black, the University of Georgia student newspaper
  • Missing Orangetheory, my main pastime before shelter at home. Now, I've learned to enjoy long family walks, picnics, board games and cooking together.
