Barnes & Thornburg Celebrates 10 Years in Minneapolis

MINNEAPOLIS – Barnes & Thornburg’s Minneapolis office is celebrating 10 years in the Twin Cities, where more than 30 attorneys help Minnesota-based companies with their business goals and legal needs across the country and around the world.

Since opening in 2009 following the acquisition of The Parsinen Law Firm, Barnes & Thornburg’s Minneapolis office has achieved tremendous growth and success during a particularly busy time for national and international firms expanding to the Twin Cities. The anniversary will be marked by a June reception at the iconic Capella Tower, where the firm is located.

“From the beginning, clients benefited from the depth and resources that come from a national firm – we were an early mover in this regard and also offered a very attractive cost structure,” said Connie Lahn, Minneapolis managing partner. “Since then, we’ve grown in tandem with our clients by anticipating their needs, and new practices and legal services are coming into play to expand those relationships. With one of the highest concentrations of Fortune 500 company headquarters, this market remains ripe for opportunities.”

The firm’s Minneapolis office provides a full range of legal services, including burgeoning bankruptcy, insurance recovery, and family law practices, along with business litigation and employment, real estate, corporate, energy, and trusts and estates law. Barnes & Thornburg serves individual and corporate clients involved in a broad range of industries such as medical devices, healthcare, manufacturing, and retail, among others.

Lahn, who became the second woman office managing partner at the firm when she took on the role in 2015, has also been heavily focused on diversity initiatives and creating an inclusive office culture. Barnes & Thornburg has become a coveted workplace for the state’s top legal talent, drawing from local law firms and corporate legal departments alike, as evidenced by the nine attorney additions in 2018, as well as the office being recognized as a “Best Place to Work” by the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal.

“We’re at a stage where we can truly hire for culture and fit – we’re not just looking for smart attorneys, but also those who want to make meaningful contributions and help grow our presence and influence,” said Lahn. “We pride ourselves on cultivating a welcoming and collegial environment, and I’m looking forward to building upon this momentum in the next decade.”

The anniversary follows the Minneapolis office’s 2019 Women in Leadership: Exploring Pathways event, its eighth annual, where internationally renowned scholar and humanitarian, Dr. Tererai Trent, was the keynote speaker.

With more than 600 attorneys and other legal professionals, Barnes & Thornburg is one of the largest law firms in the country. The firm serves clients worldwide from 14 offices in Atlanta, California, Chicago, Delaware, Indiana, Michigan, Minneapolis, Ohio, Texas and Washington, D.C.
