ATLANTA – Stephen Weizenecker, an entertainment lawyer in Barnes & Thornburg’s Atlanta office, has been named to the Atlanta Film Festival’s Board of Directors.

The Atlanta Film Festival is one of the longest-running and largest celebrations of cinema in the U.S. and one of only two-dozen Academy Award® qualifying festivals in the country. As a board member, Weizenecker will support the festival’s upcoming 44th anniversary and will assist in fundraising, promotion and identifying strategic partnerships for the event.

Weizenecker is a partner in the firm’s entertainment practice and counsels clients on production incentives and financing for film, television and videogame clients. He has also worked with numerous jurisdictions, including Georgia, on developing or improving their economic incentives for the entertainment industry. He is active in the local entertainment industry and assisted in drafting the Georgia Music Investment Act, Georgia’s first-ever tax incentive specifically for the music industry. He is a past member of the Georgia Film, Music and Digital Entertainment Advisory Commission and is former chair of the State Bar of Georgia’s Entertainment and Sports Law Section. He currently serves on the Executive Committee for the American Bar Association, Forum on Entertainment and Sports Law.

Weizenecker has been recognized nationally and locally for his entertainment work, most recently in Variety’s 2019 Legal Impact Report and Georgia Trend’s 2018 Legal Elite List.

The Atlanta Film Festival is the annual centerpiece of educational and enriching film programming that is provided year-round by its parent organization, the Atlanta Film Society.

With more than 600 attorneys and other legal professionals, Barnes & Thornburg is one of the largest law firms in the country.
